What happened on Survivor Season 51 Episode 4?

It’s the aftermath of yet another wild Tribal Council. The Five (now four) is fractured, and there’s finally a very clear line drawn in the sands of Fiji for the Toka Tribe.

As soon as they return to camp, Mike Pinsky wants to discuss who voted for whom. Jelly Loblack has lost her close tribemate, (Pantsless) Patt Cannaday, but there’s one thing she still has: an idol. Brady Booker is positively livid, now knowing he was on the wrong side of the vote with the rest of his clique. Kilby, on the other hand, is feeling great. Indeed everyone outside of what’s left of The Five is overjoyed to see them crumble.

The next morning, the mood is the complete opposite at Camp Savu as Alexis Levine leads tribemates in a beach yoga session. They may be three members down since the start, but they’re four chickens up and feeling pretty harmonious.

Until mail arrives.

Tribes of Survivor Season 51

Before we go any further into Episode 4, here’s how the tribes look at the beginning of Season 51, Episode 4:

Toka Tribe (Yellow)

  • Aaliyah Puglia – ELIMINATED
  • An “Thien An” Nguyen
  • Angelica “Jelly” Loblack
  • Brady Booker
  • Carter Krull (Mutinied)
  • Danny “Kilby” Kilby
  • Devin Way
  • Jenna Doore
  • Maggie Nestor
  • Mike Pinksy
  • Patt Cannaday – ELIMINATED
  • Lewis Kelly

Savu Tribe (Purple)

  • Alexis Levine
  • Ana Sani – ELIMINATED
  • Cristian Chavez
  • Eric Macksoud
  • Kristin Flickinger
  • Linnea Capobianco
  • Ori Jean-Charles
  • Rob Antonson – MEDICAL SELF-ELIMINATION
  • Sharonda Cox

A new tribe is born

Boats arrive on each island to pick up every member of the tribes. They meet on the beach of a third island, where Jeff waits to greet them. After a bit of teasing, Jeff tells the castaways that their two tribes will now be split into three. It’s a tribe swap!

Fun fact: Other seasons that started with two tribes, and later separated into three include Season 31 (Survivor: Cambodia – Second Chance), Season 33 (Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X), Season 34 (Survivor: Game Changers), and Season 37 (Survivor: David vs. Goliath).

Thanks to Rob’s podiatric pitfall, one tribe will be down a person. So there will be two tribes of six, and one tribe of five. Each castaway pulls their new buff out of a bag: either yellow, purple, or red.

Updated tribes

Here’s how the new tribes shake out:

The New Toka Tribe (Yellow)

  • An “Thien An” Nguyen
  • Brady Booker
  • Carter Krull
  • Kristin Flickinger
  • Maggie Nestor
  • Mike Pinksy

The New Savu Tribe (Purple)

  • Alexis Levine
  • Angelica “Jelly” Loblack
  • Devin Way
  • Jenna Doore
  • Ori Jean-Charles

The Dina Tribe (Red)

  • Cristian Chavez
  • Danny “Kilby” Kilby
  • Eric Macksoud
  • Linnea Capobianco
  • Lewis Kelly
  • Sharonda Cox

Previously eliminated: Aaliyah Puglia, Ana Sani, Patt Cannaday, Rob Antonson (voluntary)

The Dina Tribe

The new Savu and Toka tribes board the boats back to their respective islands, leaving the brand new Dina Tribe to make a home right where they stand. They’re basically starting from scratch, with nothing but a pot, a machete, and flint.

Kilby wants to avoid the “swap screw,” and tugs on heartstrings describing the harrowing time he experienced in Toka thanks to Devin. His plan works especially well on Eric, and the two form a quick and obvious alliance they name The Loverboys. This worries Sharonda, but – after reciting his own Survivor-themed version of “Escape (The Piña Colada Song),” Eric assures her that he’s still #SavuStrong. Lewis is very ill and unable to help set up camp, which ostracizes him, putting his position within the tribe in peril.

The New Toka

Toka, take two, is very much Toka, take one … plus Kristin. She names the feeling “terrifying adjacent” but she’s a crisis manager. She’s built for this! Showing off her botanical skills, she wins over her new tribemates in no time. She even schools her new tribe, explaining that “toka-toka” means family tribes. Aww!

She tries to reconnect with Carter, but he hasn’t forgotten the way she voted against him when he was still with Savu, and therefore doesn’t trust her. He does, however, trust Thien An, who tells him she’s currently looking at Mike sideways. Now that his biggest ally Pantsless Patt has gone home to a fuller wardrobe, Mike is on the market for a new No. 1 and selling himself a bit too hard.

The New Savu

At Savu, Ori and Alexis are outnumbered in their new tribe and need to worm their way in. It’s a pretty simple feat for Ori. He comes complete with a ton of muscles, which is easy on the eyes and his chances of sticking around. To be safe, though, he leans into his crush on Jelly. Jelly seems to be feeling it, but Devin playing the matchmaker no one asked for makes things a bit awkward. Either way, Jelly, Ori, and Devin confirm that their early alliance with Sharonda is still alive and well.

Alexis searches for a crack in the OG Toka trio – and finds it in Jenna. She gets to work persuading her to turn on Devin and Jelly.

Immunity Challenge

Survivor Season 51 Episode 4 Immunity Challenge

It’s windy as all get-out. Perfect challenge weather for the first Immunity Challenge as three new tribes. This one is a double Immunity Challenge, and Jeff introduces a mini-whale idol for the second place winners. It’s also a Reward Challenge: First place receives a full coffee and tea bar, second place receives delicious iced coffee. To even out the competition, Thien-An and Eric sit out for Toka and Dina respectively.

The steps are as follows: Pass water from bucket to bucket to fill a tube that will then release a ball. Then, two castaways must work together to work the ball through a maze. Passing water is tough, and the wind isn’t helping. There’s a finesse to it that Savu never seems to grasp, and they hang back in third place for the entire challenge.

So, first place is between Dina and Toka. While the duos are concentrating on the maze, Brady yells at Eric to stop talking. Yeesh. Communication is top-tier in the new Dina tribe, and they work the ball through the maze first. Toka’s ball doesn’t land in its cozy basket, but Jeff lets them know that the object of the game is to ace the maze, so they receive second place.

And while they finally made it to the maze portion of the challenge, it’s too little too late. Savu is going to Tribal Council, meaning the smallest tribe is about to get even smaller.

Back at camp

Alexis tries to warn Jenna that sticking with Devin and Jelly is a bad move, and that she should work with her instead. Things get a little desperate, even so far as Alexis asking Jenna to give her her shoes as collateral. Despite their sordid past, Jenna wants to make good with Devin and Jelly, so she lets them know that Alexis is attempting to drive a wedge between them.

For their last supper, so to speak, as a tribe of five, Devin slaughters a chicken, and proceeds to quietly name it Jenna. So it’s pretty clear where his vote will fall. The problem is: Jenna doesn’t know the poor departed chicken’s name, and hopes her intel about Alexis will strengthen an OG Toka bond that was never really there in the first place.

Tribal Council

The team of five enters Tribal Council. Alexis is using every phrase she can as a last ditch effort to persuade Devin and Jelly to vote out their tribemate, Jenna. Ori is in a good spot, but you can never be so sure in Survivor, so he brings a new basketball analogy to the Tribal Council court: While he was all for taking the lay-up in the past, he’s begging for a three-pointer.

With only five people in the tribe, three votes is all that’s needed to send a castaway home. Alexis receives one vote, Jenna receives three (a total of four, all said) and her torch is snuffed. She leaves heartbroken but proud of her gameplay, Devin is all smiles, and the updated Savu tribe walks away even smaller, but perhaps more aligned. Time will tell.

Who went home on Survivor Season 51 Episode 4?

Jenna Doore became the fourth castaway eliminated from Survivor 51.

Jenna put all of her trust into her OG Toka tribemates Devin and Jelly, only for them to vote her out in the end in favor of keeping their bond growing with Ori and Alexis. The bait and switch was believable, but the writing was on the wall before it was on the parchment, approximately when Devin decided to name the deceased chicken after her.

Jenna is the fifth person to head home from Survivor this season.
