What we know about Season 2

Dutton Ranch was officially renewed for Season 2 on June 24, 2026. The renewal came after the show scored a record-breaking streaming premiere for Paramount+, scoring 12.9 million viewers globally in the first seven days following its launch. The same day, May 15, 2026, the show premiered on Paramount Network to 1.85 million viewers, making it the No. 1 cable entertainment telecast among both adults 18-49 and total viewers, and becoming the biggest series premiere on cable since 2023.

The quick Season 2 renewal demonstrates Paramount’s confidence in Dutton Ranch, and it’s a big win for fans eager for more Beth and Rip drama.

When Season 2 could premiere

A Dutton Ranch Season 2 release date has not yet been announced, but production is moving forward. Benjamin Cavell joins the series as the new showrunner.

Who’s returning

See who’s returning to take on a new enemy in Dutton Ranch Season 2 – and, again, be warned: Season 1 spoilers ahead!

Kelly Reilly

The fearless and spirited Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) returns to hunt down those who kidnapped her son and return the Dutton Ranch to its former glory. The Season 1 finale leaves her raging for a fight after learning the Cartel has abducted Carter.

Cole Hauser

Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) will also return after successfully defending his ranch from the Cartel, but is ready to go back to war to save Carter. His job as foreman of the 10 Petal Ranch may be history, but fans know that Rip is not going down without a fight.

Returning ensemble

As for the rest of the cast, you can expect to see a lot of familiar faces, except one, Jai Courtney. His character, Rob-Will, took a bullet to the head in the jaw-dropping season finale and will not be returning to the show.

Check out the ensemble cast who are expected to return for Season 2:

  • Finn Little as Carter
  • Ed Harris as Everett McKinney
  • Annette Bening as Beulah Jackson
  • Juan Pablo Raba as Joaquin
  • J.R. Villarreal as Azul
  • Marc Menchaca as Zachariah
  • Natalie Alyn Lind as Oreana

Additional casting announcements for Season 2 may come later.

Benjamin Cavell joins as showrunner

TV veteran Benjamin Cavell joins Dutton Ranch Season 2 as the new showrunner. He is the creator, writer, and executive producer of the CBS/Paramount+ drama SEAL Team. Cavell is also the creator and writer of The Institute, recently released on MGM+.

If you are looking for more ammunition in his TV arsenal, Cavell has written for many shows such as Justified, The Stand, Sneaky Pete, Homeland, and Godfather of Harlem.

What Season 2 could explore

Dutton Ranch Season 1 ends with a bang in the finale “El Padrino.” Rob-Will is murdered, presumably by his adoptive brother Joaquin; Oreana is pregnant, Carter has been abducted, and Beth and Rip’s lives are turned upside-down after finding out the 10 Petal Ranch is illegally smuggling drugs from Mexico.

Season 2 will see Beth and Rip face major challenges, first and foremost, how to get their son Carter back from the Cartel. The future of the 10 Petal Ranch is facing major changes as well, with the death of heir-apparent Rob-Will and the unwelcome return of Joaquin’s father and drug lord Mariano Reyes. And to top off all those shocking new storylines is a surprise pregnancy.

Why the series became such a hit

One of the most iconic couples on TV right now is Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler. Their love has inspired memes, Halloween costumes, and as much merchandise as any cowgirl or cowboy could want. Getting a chance to follow their story with Dutton Ranch after they said goodbye to Yellowstone Dutton Ranch is a dream fans gravitated towards right away.

Beth and Rip are not the only reason Dutton Ranch is a big hit. Check out the strong supporting cast: Oscar® nominees Annette Bening and Ed Harris, Jai Courtney, Finn Little, Juan Pablo Raba, Natalie Alyn Lind, J.R. Villarreal, and Marc Menchaca. These actors shine in a character-driven story set against the beautiful landscape scenery of Texas.
