Why 2026 is such a big year

2026 is a big year for Star Trek fans because the franchise turns 60. It was on Sept. 8, 1966, that TV audiences got their first glimpse of Kirk, Spock, Bones, and the rest of the Enterprise crew via the very first aired episode of the very first Star Trek series. The yearlong 60th anniversary celebrates “Space for Everybody,” extending an open invitation to celebrate the future that Star Trek aspires to.
