Modern comedy show favorites (2000s to today)

These are the great comedy shows of our new-ish century. They stand out for clever writing and unforgettable characters. Below you’ll find beloved sitcoms, workplace comedies, animated favorites, ensemble gems, and more.

1. Ghosts

Danielle Pinnock as Alberta, Richie Moriarty as Pete and Rose McIver as Samantha star in Ghosts.
CBS

New Yorkers Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) Arondekar inherit a country house – and its resident spirits. The comedy comes from the clash in cultures: the living vs. the ghosts; a ghost from one era vs. a ghost of another era. Or, to put it another way: When Pete (Richie Moriarity), the straight-arrow scout leader from the 1980s, mixes it up with Viking Thorfinn, comedy ensues!

A CBS Original comedy, Ghosts is renewed for Season 6, and will return with new episodes at midseason of the 2026-2027 TV schedule. But why wait? Binge-watch all episodes from the show’s first five seasons right now.
