What is the new series about?

Among Us follows a group of eccentric, monochromatic Crewmates of a ship transporting junk across the galaxy who must root out an Impostor in their midst before they fall victim to its villainous designs. The series is based on the globally popular multiplayer social deception game of the same name.

Fans of Star Trek: Lower Decks, Futurama, and The Afterparty will find a lot to like. In each episode, someone might be lying. The trick is figuring out who before it is too late.

Who is in the cast?

Here is the announced cast of the new Among Us animated series.

  • Yvette Nicole Brown as “Orange”
  • Kimiko Glenn as “Cyan”

Why fans are excited

Fans of Among Us are excited for the new animated series because it’s based on a game that genuinely changed how millions of people interact online. The Among Us fandom is massive, spanning gaming communities and streamers.

There is also something about the social deduction format that maps unusually well onto great storytelling. The game’s central tension (i.e., the question of who among a group is secretly working against everyone else) is exactly the kind of premise that can fuel character arcs, shifting alliances, and genuine surprises. Just remember: Vote wisely.

Why the game became a phenomenon

Among Us launched in 2018, created by the indie studio Innersloth. For its first two years, the game gained a steady, but relatively quiet following. Then, during the global pandemic lockdown of 2020, the game exploded, reaching nearly 500 million monthly active users at its peak. Among Us is something people of all ages could do together, making connections during a time when connection was so limited. The game’s simple premise turned out to be extraordinarily well-suited for streaming, because watching other people play Among Us on Twitch and YouTube – where the game has more than 4 billion views and 1.22 billion viewing sessions, respectively –  is almost as entertaining as playing it yourself.

Today, the game remains culturally recognizable in a way few mobile titles ever achieve. That longevity is what made an animated series the next mission.
