CBS has given the green light to Ransom, a suspenseful 13-episode drama starring Luke Roberts (Game Of Thrones, Black Sails) as a world-renowned crisis and hostage negotiator whose team is brought in to resolve the most difficult kidnap and ransom cases. Ransom debuts Sunday, Jan. 1 at 8:30-9:30 PM ET / 8:00-9:00 PM PT before it moves to its regular time slot on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 8/7c.

Created by Frank Spotnitz and David Vainola, Ransom is inspired by the actual experiences of crisis negotiator Laurent Combalbert and his partner Marwan Mery, who are widely revered as two of the world's finest in the field. Today, Combalbert and Mery travel around the globe and help multinational corporations and governmental agencies with complex negotiations and conflict resolution.

"The world of crisis negotiation is incredibly compelling, as demonstrated by the fascinating real-life cases Laurent Combalbert has negotiated," Executive Producer Spotnitz said in a press release. "Laurent has inspired a brilliant and complex character, and you can't help but be moved seeing all the lives he's saved around the world."

Ransom's on-screen team is led by crisis and hostage negotiator Eric Beaumont (Roberts), who understands criminals better than they do and he uses his insight into human behavior to resolve the most intense kidnap and ransom cases. Despite the stakes, Beaumont refuses to resort to violence.

While his powers of manipulation make him the best at what he does, they complicate his relationships with family, friends, and colleagues.

The series begins with Beaumont taking on Maxine Carlson, a new member of the team who is eager to prove herself. But, under the surface, a dangerous secret from Maxine's past lurks, posing a threat that even the great Eric Beaumont may not be able to resolve.

"As CBS continues to program year round, we are always looking for series that can fit seamlessly within our schedule and connect with our viewers," Glenn Geller, President of CBS Entertainment, said. "Ransom brings a compelling new approach to a character-driven crime drama with a sense of urgency and closure in each episode."

Watch the series premiere of Ransom on Sunday, Jan. 1 at 8:30-9:30 PM ET / 8:00-9:00 PM PT before it moves to its regular time slot on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 8/7c.
