Dexter Morgan is back in the kill room in the just-released official Season 2 trailer for Paramount+’s original drama series Dexter®: Resurrection. It opens with Dexter (Michael C. Hall) sizing up his latest victim with a confession: “This is me coming clean about who I am.” Despite introducing himself as the Bay Harbor Butcher, the unlucky victim admits he’s never heard of him. “Kids today, no sense of history,” Dexter quips before letting his knife do the talking.

But it appears that’s the least of Dexter’s problems. As the trailer reveals, Dexter has two very different serial killers to contend with: the notorious The New York Ripper (Brian Cox) and dangerous newcomer The Five Borough Killer (Dan Stevens). On top of everything, Dexter is dealing with a possible midlife crisis, worsening eyesight, and a delicate relationship with his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott). We’ll get to the bloody truth when Dexter®: Resurrection premieres Season 2 on Friday, Oct. 30, on Paramount+ (Paramount+ Premium plan). Until then, watch the trailer now.

The big picture

In the Dexter®: Resurrection Season 2 official trailer, Dexter Morgan has fresh blood and a killer midlife crisis to deal with. After a kill-room introduction falls flat with a victim who’s never heard of him — er, the Bay Harbor Butcher — Dexter faces a changing landscape of murderers: Dan Stevens’ Five Borough Killer is looking to make a name for himself, while Brian Cox’s infamous New York Ripper — a character previously mentioned in Season 1 — remains beyond the reach of the law. As teased in the trailer, Uma Thurman’s Charley, who was last seen leaving New York City at the end of Season 1, is back to settle an old score. Add worsening eyesight, a midlife crisis, and a complicated relationship with his son, and Dexter has plenty on his plate in Season 2.

Two serial killers enter Dexter’s orbit

Dexter’s orbit is getting dangerously crowded as the trailer introduces Dan Stevens’ Five Borough Killer, a young killer who “wants to make a name for himself” with every victim, and Brian Cox’s infamous New York Ripper, who basks in his gruesome glory days as he refuses “to be forgotten.” While The Five Borough Killer racks up victims across the city, The New York Ripper is the notorious killer who escaped justice. “Good times!” the Ripper maniacally laughs. And what about that scene of The Five Borough Killer asking “Who are you?” while studying Dexter’s photo? It’s shaping up to be one hell of a ride.

Dexter faces a midlife crisis

Dexter acknowledges that life in his 50s isn’t quite what he imagined (who would’ve thought he’d still be killing at his age?), and his worsening eyesight lands him in the optometrist’s chair. It’s forced him to re-evaluate his life like never before as his dead father, Harry Morgan, tells him the one thing he doesn’t want to hear: He’s “having a midlife crisis.” “I’m not ready for that,” Dexter says with a heavy sigh. Getting older seems to be the one problem he can’t stab his way out of.

Dexter and Harrison are getting along (maybe)

Are father and son actually… getting along? The trailer hints at a warmer dynamic between Dexter and Harrison, with the pair seemingly presenting a united front. Case in point: Harrison gently reminds his father that he “can stop these monsters.” Considering their turbulent and violent past (remember when Harrison shot Dexter?), the duo possibly getting along is a unique shift in their dynamic.

Charley returns with unfinished business

After skipping town at the end of Season 1, Charley is back to tie up loose ends. In one scene, she’s seen loading a gun and in another, she tells Dexter they have “some unfinished business.” Something tells us this won’t be a friendly reunion.

The Dexter®: Resurrection Season 2 official trailer features a good number of folks who are returning from Season 1, along with several new characters you’ll meet for the first time in Season 2, notably Brian Cox’s The New York Ripper and Dan Stevens’ The Five Borough Killer.

Michael C. Hall, Uma Thurman, Jack Alcott, Desmond Harrington, James Remar, and Krysten Ritter are among the familiar faces back for more. The season also features new additions Bokeem Woodbine, Nona Parker Johnson, and Gabriel Luna.
