- When does it take place? This 1990s-set prequel series focuses on Dexter Morgan’s early years as a police tech – and a serial killer.
Dexter®
- When does it take place? This is Dexter Morgan in his prime, solving crimes by day at Miami Metro Police Department, and serving his bloodlust by night.
Dexter®: New Blood
- When does it take place? Roughly 10 years after the events of the final episode of Dexter®, in which our anti-hero is believed to have died in Hurricane Laura, we find him alive and kicking in upstate New York.
Dexter®: Resurrection
- When does it take place? Roughly 10 weeks after the events of the final episode of Dexter®: New Blood, in which our anti-hero presumably dies after being shot (at his own urging) by his son, Harrison, we find him up, and heading to New York City in search of his offspring.

What is Dexter® about?

Dexter® is about Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a blood-spatter analyst employed by the Miami Metro Homicide Division. Since witnessing the murder of his mother at a young age, Dexter’s trauma has taken on the form of a Dark Passenger in his mind, which compels him to murder. Fortunately, his late father – who also appears to him in his mind – taught him a way to channel his homicidal urges, and so he limits his kills to the worst villains he encounters. Dexter lives two lives – a forensic expert by day and a serial killer by night. One of TV’s most acclaimed crime thrillers, Dexter® has inspired multiple spinoffs, all set within the Dexter® Universe.
