Dexter®: Resurrection
Watch NowSeason 1 recap: What happened?

Dexter®: Resurrection finds Dexter Morgan heading to New York City, a.k.a. the City That Never Sleeps to find his son, Harrison, and repair their fractured bond. Sure, Harrison shot his father in the chest with a hunting rifle, unable to reconcile Dexter’s murderous past with his justifications for killing. But Dexter believes he sees a kindred darkness in his son, and that reuniting with Harrison might be all it takes to mend the rift between them.
As he scours the city for Harrison, he learns of the existence of Ronald Schmidt (Marc Menchaca), a serial killer who offs rideshare drivers and calls himself “The Dark Passenger.” This will not stand; Dexter has long used the same name for his own murderous urges, and he’s not about to let some imposter claim it. He dispatches Ronald, and finds among his belongings an invitation to an exclusive dinner party hosted by billionaire Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage).
Intrigued, Dexter attends the soirée posing as Ronald, only to discover that Prater hosts a secret club of serial killers who gather to celebrate their murderous exploits. For a man who’s spent his life hiding his deadly predilections, Dexter finds himself delighted to be among his familiars. Gradually, however, Dexter realizes that his new acquaintances don’t share his moral code, and that each deserves a place on his kill table. One by one, he dishes out his particular brand of justice, even framing one of the killers for a murder committed by Harrison.
Oh, about Harrison. Let’s rewind a bit.
How did Dexter survive and reunite with Harrison?
At the start of Dexter®: Resurrection, Dexter lies in a coma after being shot by his own son, Harrison. When he awakens 10 weeks later, he learns that the frigid temperatures of Iron Lake, New York have slowed his blood loss, allowing him to survive what should’ve been a fatal wound. What’s recovery matter, though, if Harrison has skipped town and Dexter’s old Miami Metro colleague Angel Batista (David Zayas) is sniffing around his hospital bed with dangerous questions? Dexter’s got to get out of here, make amends, start fresh.
Dexter fast-tracks his recovery and follows Harrison to the Big Apple, where he deduces that his son is working at the Empire Hotel. Paternal instinct? Perhaps it’s more a case of like recognizing like. While monitoring local crime reports, Dexter spots a murder bearing the hallmarks of his own handiwork, albeit with a sloppier execution. Sure enough, Harrison has impulsively killed sexually predatory hotel guest Ryan Foster (Bryan Lillis), and despite his efforts to cover his tracks, the NYPD is closing in. Working behind the scenes, Dexter cleans up the evidence his son has overlooked. Harrison’s a rookie at this, after all. But when a guilt-ridden Harrison approaches the police station to turn himself in, Dexter has no choice but to reveal himself. He’s not about to let his son’s guilty conscience rob him of a second chance at fatherhood – or the opportunity to teach Harrison how to live with his own Dark Passenger.
Who are the key characters in Season 1?
These are the 12 characters who make the most impact in Season 1 of Dexter®: Resurrection. We’re splitting them up (so to speak) into two categories: Dexter’s inner circle (and outer enemies), and the murderous members of Leon Prater’s exclusive club.
Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall)

The man of the hour, whose quest to bond with his son leads him to New York City, a metropolis teeming with murderers – and potential additions to his kill list.
Harrison Morgan (Jack Alcott)

Dexter Morgan’s only son, whose impulse to protect his coworker Elsa (Emilia Suárez) leads him to murder a hotel guest and confront his own Dark Passenger.
Angel Batista (David Zayas)

Dexter’s former Miami Metro colleague, a detective whose determination to expose his murderous past threatens Dexter’s new life.
Harry Morgan (James Remar)

Dexter’s deceased adoptive father, who appears to his son as a ghostly presence, questioning Dexter’s murderous impulses and moral choices.
Claudette Wallace (Kadia Saraf)

A meticulous detective who smells something fishy about the Morgans’ murder cover-up, despite Dexter’s efforts to pin the crime on one of Prater’s killer acquaintances.
Blessing Kamara (Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine)

A rideshare driver who befriends Dexter and allows him to live (and, unbeknownst to Blessing, work) in his basement apartment.
Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage)

A billionaire who runs an exclusive club for serial killers, complete with a secret trophy room housing macabre souvenirs of their crimes.
Charley Brown (Uma Thurman)

Prater’s bodyguard, who carries out Prater’s dirty work to earn the money to pay for her ailing mother’s medical care.
Mia LaPierre (Krysten Ritter)

Dubbed “Lady Vengeance,” this serial killer claims to slay only those who deserve it – a code that appeals to Dexter until he discovers that she’s a hypocrite. Who better to frame for Ryan Foster’s murder?
Lowell Sloane (Neil Patrick Harris)

Known as “The Tattoo Collector,” Lowell removes tattooed skin from his victims and keeps it as a souvenir. Dexter makes him one of his first targets after infiltrating Prater’s club.
Gareth Pike (David Dastmalchian)

Gareth is known as “The Gemini Killer,” who murders victims in pairs and poses their bodies together. Dexter discovers that Gareth shares both his identity and his murderous habits with his identical twin brother. Neither survives Dexter’s investigation.
Al “Jolly” Walker (Eric Stonestreet)

Known as “The Rapunzel Killer,” Al targets women with long hair and keeps their ponytails as trophies. His crimes earn him a place in Prater’s club and on Dexter’s list of potential victims.
How does Season 1 end?
The Season 1 finale of Dexter®: Resurrection finds Dexter facing off against Leon Prater, whose collection of murder trophies includes evidence of Dexter’s past crimes. Prater has also learned Dexter’s real identity, putting both Dexter and Harrison at risk.
Their confrontation ends with Dexter killing Prater, but the billionaire has already claimed another victim. Angel Batista, who has spent the season pursuing Dexter, is shot and killed by Prater before he can bring his former colleague to justice.
Dexter survives the encounter and escapes on Prater’s yacht with Harrison, leaving the father and son with another chance to rebuild their relationship. But their troubles are hardly over. Among Prater’s collection, Dexter discovers information about other serial killers, setting the stage for more deadly encounters in Season 2.
