Sporting CP and Manchester United meet in UEFA Champions League Matchday 5 action on Wednesday, Nov. 25 at Estádio José Alvalade. Kickoff time is 3 PM ET. The match streams live on Paramount+, with coverage starting at 2 PM ET.
Man. United’s Champions League campaign would have been on life support had it not been for a late Matheus Cunha double against Roma. The Brazilian’s two goals, along with a penalty from Bruno Fernandes, turned a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 win at home, and cooled manager Michael Carrick’s hot seat, too. The Red Devils are in 17th place in UCL standings, with six points heading into Matchday 5 against Sporting CP.
The Portuguese club, which has some deep ties to Man. United, eked out a 1-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk to earn its third win of this Champions League campaign, and move up to 10th place – just out of the final automatic qualifier spot (8th). As such, this won’t be an easy game for Man. United, who previously recruited Nani, Cristiano Ronaldo and current captain Fernandes from Sporting.
The clubs last faced off in the 2007-2008 Champions League group stage, with Man. United winning on both occasions.
