The Yellowstone universe is a multi-generational saga that follows a family — the Duttons — from the late 1800s to present day as they fight to acquire land in Montana, and maintain a hold on their ranching empire. And this journey begins in 1883.

The acclaimed show 1883 introduces us to James Dutton (Tim McGraw). And, yes, in the Yellowstone universe, James Dutton is a forerunner of Yellowstone patriarch John Dutton III.

In the year 1883, James, wife Margaret (Faith Hill), and their children journey westward in a wagon train led by Shea Brennan (Oscar® nominee Sam Elliott). Though the Duttons face treacherous landscapes and dangerous outlaws, their dream to start a ranch in Montana keeps them pushing forward.
