Even if you’ve watched every season of Yellowjackets, it can still be hard to keep the ensemble straight without a cheat sheet. Your attention is split between the team’s time stranded in the wilderness after a plane crash in 1996 and the survivors’ lives roughly 25 years later, plus the people who enter and leave their lives in both timelines.
Buoyed by a murderer’s row of character actors, ’90s icons, and sharp-eyed newcomers, this blend of survival epic, psychological horror, and coming-of-age drama has yielded a hit series. With the final season exclusively premiering on Friday, Nov. 20, on Paramount+ with a Paramount+ Premium subscription, the clock is ticking on the mystery of who survived the wilderness and who didn’t.
What follows is a guide to the actors who brought these complex characters to life across every season.
Spoiler alert: We’ll do our best not to spoil the show’s major reveals, but in a show with secrets behind every cabin and suburban house, even a simple cast guide can provide more information than you bargained for.

Meet the core cast
Melanie Lynskey and Sophie Nélisse as Shauna

Seasons: 1–4
Despite a life studded by unsettling actions, Shauna is the show’s emotional center. Sophie Nélisse plays her in the wilderness, all raw nerves and barely contained resentment tangled into her relationships with the team, especially her best friend Jackie. She’s a teenager who’s already learned that the safest place to be is in the periphery of the spotlight.
Where you’ve seen Sophie Nélisse before: The Book Thief, Heated Rivalry, The Kid Detective
Melanie Lynskey plays her as an adult, portraying a woman who has spent decades trying to convince herself she’s ordinary. Lynskey’s adult Shauna navigates suburban domesticity with a simmering edge that suggests the wilderness never really left her.
Where you’ve seen Melanie Lynskey before: Heavenly Creatures, The Last of Us, Matlock
Tawny Cypress and Jasmin Savoy Brown as Taissa

Seasons: 1–4
Taissa is one of the team’s most determined personalities. Jasmin Savoy Brown brings a pragmatic energy to the role that inspires confidence, both from her teammates and the viewer. You get the sense that if she just keeps making the right decisions, everything will be fine.
Where you’ve seen Jasmin Savoy Brown before: The Leftovers, Scream (2022), Scream VI, Scream 7, For the People
As an adult, Taissa has channeled that same energy into a political career, though Tawny Cypress plays her with the unmistakable sense that something is always about to go wrong. A study in compartmentalization, her steely resolve is not immune to a more supernatural excursion or sapphic drama with her high school sweetheart.
Where you’ve seen Tawny Cypress before: Unforgettable, The Equalizer, House of Cards
Christina Ricci and Samantha Hanratty as Misty

Seasons: 1–4
Misty is an outsider whose resourcefulness becomes especially important after the crash. Samantha Hanratty plays her with a desperate eagerness that’s equal parts funny and heartrending. The team’s equipment manager is the kind of person you want on your side — as long as you’re not near any cliffs.
Where you’ve seen Samantha Hanratty before: Shameless, Salem, Bratz
As an adult, Misty has embraced her strangeness, becoming an amateur sleuth who treats other people’s tragedies as puzzles to solve. Her wiry optimism is often wielded as a knife, her main obstacle thwarting her desperate need to be needed. Christina Ricci is clearly having the time of her life in the role, and her chemistry with Elijah Wood’s Walter is one of the show’s great joys.
Where you’ve seen Christina Ricci before: The Addams Family, Casper, Monstrous
Juliette Lewis and Sophie Thatcher as Natalie

Seasons: 1–2 for Lewis; 1–4 for Thatcher
Natalie is one of the team’s most independent members whose skills are essential to the group’s survival. Sophie Thatcher plays her as a teenager with a bruised toughness, the kind of apathy that comes from knowing too much too soon.
Where you’ve seen Sophie Thatcher before: Prospect, Heretic, Companion
Juliette Lewis brings a jittery, live-wire energy to the adult role that pulls you into her arc despite the compelling work of her castmates. She’s weathered in a way that makes a look stronger than a speech, soaking up the energy in a room with raw determination. You couldn’t guess why her run was shorter if you tried.
Where you’ve seen Juliette Lewis before: Wayward Pines, Natural Born Killers, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape
Lauren Ambrose and Liv Hewson as Van

Seasons: Hewson 1–4; Ambrose 2–4
Liv Hewson originated the role of Van in the wilderness timeline with a warmth that often lifts the energy despite dire circumstances. Her chemistry with Brown makes the pair easy to root for in either timeline. Van is the believer; she wants to see the best in people, even when the evidence suggests otherwise.
Where you’ve seen Liv Hewson before: Among Us, Santa Clarita Diet, Bombshell
Lauren Ambrose joined in Season 2 as her adult counterpart, and her connection with Taissa remains one of the show’s most complicated relationships. Ambrose effortlessly connects Hewson’s warmth and tenacity to the restrictive perils of adulthood, from love to the specter of death itself.
Where you’ve seen Lauren Ambrose before: Six Feet Under, Servant, Can’t Hardly Wait
Simone Kessell and Courtney Eaton as Lottie

Seasons: Eaton 1–4; Kessell 2–3
Courtney Eaton plays teenage Lottie with a quiet, evolving confidence, whose spiritual beliefs become increasingly influential in the wilderness. Her inner world is both a source of comfort and unease for the group, but either way, her magnetism is undeniable.
Where you’ve seen Courtney Eaton before: Mad Max: Fury Road, Gods of Egypt, Status Update
Simone Kessell joined in Season 2 as adult Lottie, bringing a commanding presence to the role that somehow tinges her warmth with something sinister. Her serene demeanor picks up where Eaton’s left off, equal parts intoxicating and unsettling.
Where you’ve seen Simone Kessell before: The Crossing, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Our Flag Means Death
Steven Krueger as Ben Scott

Seasons: 1–3
Ben is the team’s assistant coach and one of the adults who survives the crash, though his authority is always on shifting ground. He’s responsible for them, threatened by them, and increasingly uncertain of his place in whatever society they’re building.
Where you’ve seen Steven Krueger before: The Originals, Roswell, New Mexico, Pretty Little Liars
Warren Kole as Jeff Sadecki

Seasons: 1–4
Jeff is Shauna’s husband in the present-day timeline, played by Warren Kole. As a doting himbo, Kole has a gift for finding the humor and pathos in a character who could easily be one-note. Whenever you think you know what the limits of his love are, he surprises you.
Where you’ve seen Warren Kole before: Why Women Kill, Shades of Blue, The Following
Kevin Alves as Travis Martinez

Seasons: 1–4
Travis is one of the teenagers stranded with the Yellowjackets and the older brother of Javi. His survival skills help him get closer to Natalie, but his devotion to Lottie’s spirituality guides his arc throughout the show. Alves’ quiet intensity allows him to navigate a range of dark emotions while maintaining an inviting softness.
Where you’ve seen Kevin Alves before: Locke & Key, Shadowhunters, The Expanse
Other recurring cast members
Yellowjackets also has a deep bench of recurring players who drift in and out of both timelines, from family members to fellow survivors or even the occasional oddball who turns out to matter more than anyone expected.
Sarah Desjardins as Callie Sadecki

Seasons: 1–4
Callie is Shauna and Jeff’s daughter, and her involvement in her parents’ increasingly complicated lives has grown with each season. Sarah Desjardins plays her with a teenage rebellion that slowly reveals that the apple may not fall far from the tree, whether Shauna likes it or not.
Where you’ve seen Sarah Desjardins before: The Night Agent, Impulse, Tron: Ares
Elijah Wood as Walter Tattersall

Seasons: 2–3
Walter is a citizen detective who enters Misty’s orbit, and Elijah Wood plays him with a cheerful oddness that makes him the perfect match for Christina Ricci’s Misty. Their scenes together have a screwball energy that brightens a show that’s not afraid to go dark.
Where you’ve seen Elijah Wood before: The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Wilfred, Among Us
Alexa Barajas as Mari

Seasons: 1–4
Mari is another member of the Yellowjackets team in the wilderness, played with a mix of whimsy and grit that feels authentic to teenagehood. Barajas has a knack for making Mari feel like a fully realized person even when she’s limping at the edges of the ensemble.
Where you’ve seen Alexa Barajas before: The Flash, Romi
Keeya King and Nia Sondaya as Akilah

Seasons: King 1; Sondaya 2–4
Akilah is the kind of character that sneaks up on you, from a compassionate team player to someone who can do what’s necessary when pushed. Keeya King originated the role in Season 1 with a watchful groundedness.
Where you’ve seen Keeya King before: Batwoman, Van Helsing (2019), Jigsaw
Note: The character was recast for Season 2, with Nia Sondaya taking over as Akilah’s role began to grow into something less timid yet still soft. Sondaya displays the strength required to maintain one’s softness in the face of adversity.
Where you’ve seen Nia Sondaya before: FBI, Truth Be Told, Bel-Air
Hilary Swank and Jenna Burgess as Melissa

SHOWTIME® /Paramount+
Seasons: Burgess 2–4; Swank 3–4
Yes, Melissa actually has a personality. She slowly moved from background wilderness filler to a series regular, sparked by her increasingly bombastic interactions with Shauna.
Where you’ve seen Jenna Burgess before: Tracker, The Night Agent
Hilary Swank’s portrayal of adult Melissa is a case study in running from yourself, complete with a new identity. Unfortunately, the past catches up with us all, and sometimes you just can’t take the wilderness out of the girl.
Where you’ve seen Hilary Swank before: Million Dollar Baby, Freedom Writers, Alaska Daily

How the two timelines work
One timeline drops you in 1996, right after the plane goes down and a bunch of teenagers are left to figure out the wilderness on their own. The other picks up roughly 25 years later, when the survivors are adults cosplaying normalcy. That’s why Shauna, Misty, Taissa, Natalie, Van, and Lottie each get two actors—one for the girl, one for the woman she became.
This storytelling maneuver could easily collapse on itself, but instead the interwoven timelines show how survival isn’t just about a blizzard in the middle of nowhere. Survival can be the choices you make, by or against the people you care about in a seemingly boring life.
