If you’re still reeling from the Season 1 finale of MobLand, and can’t quite make sense of it all, you’re not alone.
The season finale wraps up the Harrigan-Stevenson revenge tour, but not without cost for the Harrigans. The once tight family – held together largely by fear and respect for their patriarch Conrad (Pierce Brosnan) – has seen through the cracks of his facade. Now, they’re ready to make their own moves.
You’ve already seen each character’s growing distrust across the 10 episodes streaming now on Paramount+, but here’s how it all comes together. Come for the recap, and stay for the analysis, character arcs, and what they all mean for Season 2.

What happens in the finale?
We drop into MobLand Season 1 finale in the aftermath of Kevin Harrigan (Paddy Considine) finally getting his revenge on his prison tormentor, Alan Rusby (Nigel Lindsay). After disposing of the body, there’s a notable shift in Kevin’s confidence as he teams up with Harry Da Souza (Tom Hardy) to go after rival boss Richie Stevenson (Geoff Bell).
A couple of prison visits to the head(s) of the family shift the power dynamic as hard-hitting truths are revealed. Kevin finally stands up to his father while his mother, Maeve (Helen Mirren), spills the beans to Eddie (Anson Boon) that he is actually Conrad’s son.
Harry puts together that the family lawyer, O’Hara Delaney (Lisa Dwan), was the traitor all along and uses her to manipulate Richie into a bloody ambush. Richie’s team takes the bait and attempts to attack the Harrigans’ safe house and O’Hara’s office, but they’re outwitted (though not before Kiko’s, played by Antonio González Guerrero, untimely demise). Richie and O’Hara don’t survive the ambush — much to her surprise — putting the Harrigans back on top in London.
As the episode winds down, Harry visits Kat McAllister (Janet McTeer) before turning her down for a second time. He then returns to the Harrigan Cotswolds compound for his family, where a domestic spat with his wife becomes potentially fatal.
Why Harry refuses Kat McAllister
Kat offers Harry a chance to play with the real movers and shakers on an international scale, but he remains loyal, even to a fractured Harrigan household. Throughout the season, from low-level thugs shaking down Bella (Lara Pulver) to Kat herself, Harry continues to prove his loyalty.
Harry’s friendship with Kevin is the driving force behind his commitment to the family, dating back to their traumatic prison days. So even with the chips stacked against him, saying no to one of the most powerful women in the West is a no-brainer. This scene solidifies to the audience once and for all that there’s nothing that could sway Harry away from his post.
Kevin becomes the family’s new power player
This finale shows Kevin with a newfound confidence after putting Rusby six feet under, moving from an insecure but loyal soldier to a shrewd leader. He’s finally able to confront his father, albeit through bulletproof glass, about Conrad’s affair with his wife while he was in prison. This betrayal was simply the cherry on top of years of manipulation and abuse, both in and outside of his family.
Airing out the past brings him closer to Bella, who reveals her own history of abuse. Their united front is contested by Kevin’s half-siblings: Seraphina and Eddie. As Seraphina contemplates a deal with Kat of her own against making her own moves within the family, Eddie steps into his chaotic power as the son rather than the grandson of London’s top crime boss.
The finale’s biggest reveals
The tense finale answers many of fans’ burning questions throughout the season, namely who is Eddie’s father, who’s the mole inside the Harrigan family, and, of course, which family will run London once and for all.
Eddie learns the truth
Eddie’s parentage is revealed rather clumsily during a visit to Maeve in prison. With the family fracturing, Maeve can see the strength in Eddie that she once saw in Conrad and is looking for a new puppet for her Lady Macbeth schtick (with some incest-adjacent and age-gap implications). Armed with this new information, Eddie knows he has a direct line to the throne rather than waiting for his more measured father to ascend.
O’Hara was the mole
O’Hara saw the beginning of Conrad’s decline into recklessness and hitched her wagon to Richie and his family’s fentanyl dominance. Harry uses Richie’s trust in her and her own self-preservation skills to set both of them up for efficient, explosive ambushes, likely fulfilling the vision he mentioned to Richie earlier in “Jigsaw Puzzle” when the Da Souzas were threatened.
The war finally ends
At the end of the day, Richie’s need for revenge and belief that he was always the smartest person in the room led him to his demise. Unfortunately for the Harrigans, Richie was the least of their problems. With all three living children gunning for Conrad’s throne and Kat becoming Harry’s enemy, conflicts within and outside of the Cotswolds are coming for the Harrigans in Season 2.
Does Harry die?
In the final moments of the episode, Jan and Harry get into a heated row in the Harrigan kitchen. While Harry can outmaneuver all manner of criminals, his guard is notably softened around his wife, who, in her wild gestures, stabs him in the chest.
Executive producer Jez Butterworth has since confirmed that Harry survives, but the finale leaves his condition uncertain. You’ll have to wait until Season 2 to see if Harry can be the same fixer who can take down a small army by himself or if he’ll play a more strategic role in the power vacuum that lies ahead.
What the ending really means
The Harrigans may have won the gang war, but the family war is raging on as a once-united unit jockeys for position and power. Though hinted at, we still don’t know the darkness of Conrad and Maeve’s childhoods that primed them for a life as career criminals. The notion of inherited violence and cycles of abuse trickle down, with the reveal about Eddie’s parentage seeding the idea that he’s closer to Conrad’s bloodlust.
Harry’s loyalty outweighs his ambition as he puts his lot in with his best friend Kevin who has now strengthened his alliance with his wife. Kevin may have gone cold on Eddie, but Bella still holds a soft spot for him, even after he tried to choke her. Maeve will continue to play Conrad like a fiddle while she bets on Eddie’s ascension. Meanwhile, Seraphina, potentially with the help of Kat, is the dark horse with enough cunning to outlast them all, especially as she’s Conrad’s favorite.
With these intermingling loyalties and a London weakened by war, it’s anyone’s game in Season 2.
How the finale sets up Season 2
Kevin stepping up to take over and redeem the Harrington name takes him from idle youngest son to a leader willing to do what’s necessary to stay in power. Though Conrad and Maeve are still imprisoned and the family lawyer is leaking blood out of her tailored suit, they can still easily start plotting schemes to unleash upon their inevitable release. Eddie’s role, especially with the level of distrust he has with his entire family for lying to him, is still up in the air with him as a dangerous wildcard.
Kat’s power and reach will likely be explored more in Season 2 between Seraphina’s ambition and Harry’s rebuff. Of course, Harry can only be a worthy enemy to Kat if he manages to recover well from his stab wound, but it’s likely that his proven head for strategy in a crisis will be a feather in Kevin’s cap.
With a family at odds with itself and even larger criminal enterprises, it’s no surprise that Paramount+ has renewed this slick crime drama for Season 2.
Why the Harrigans’ victory comes at a cost
Though their war with Stevensons has come to a close, allowing for a power vacuum for London’s supply of fentanyl or The Fire, the Harrigans aren’t done fighting yet. A family once known for its loyalty has never been more divided, as factions fueled by infighting and betrayal threaten to destroy an empire.
In a world where violence begets violence, there’s no telling who will be the best molded by the blood of their rivals (or their own family) to run the streets of London.
