Season 5 of Ghosts is underway. The latest chapter in TV’s funniest supernatural saga airs on CBS, and streams on Paramount+. (No wonder it’s one of our Sneak Peak Staff Picks!)

The CBS Original show follows freelance writer Sam (Rose McIver) and her chef husband Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), a young married couple from New York City who inherit Woodstone Manor from Sam’s great aunt. But this upstate New York mansion is haunted by the spirits of those who’ve died there, and only Sam (or, mostly only Sam) can see them.

The quirky bunch of ghosts includes Sam’s great-great-great-great-aunt Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky), formerly closested gay Revolutionary War captain Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones), ‘80s uniformed scout leader Pete (Richie Moriarty), brusque Viking warrior Thorfinn (Devan Chandler Long), pantsless Gen X stockbroker Trevor (Asher Grodman), Prohibition-era singer Alberta (Danielle Pinnock), 16th century Lenape hunter Sasappis (Román Zaragoza), and ‘60s hippie Flower (Sheila Carrasco).

All of these characters have helped make Ghosts an otherworldly hit. The CBS Original comedy is on Season 5 – and counting. (The show has already been renewed for Season 6.)

Because there’s no time like the presence – sorry, present – we’re here to help break down Ghosts‘ latest season. Read on for your guide to Season 5, including the cast list, episode details, and a recap of where we left our heroes at the end of Season 4 …

What is Ghosts Season 5 about?

Ghosts Season 5 is about the continued, hauntingly entertaining adventures of Sam, Jay, and their ghostly roommates.

Ghosts Season 4 ended with the guests at Woodstone Manor gathered for the launch of Sam and Isaac’s vampire novel. The celebration turned tense once Elias Woodstone (Matt Walsh), Hetty’s demonic husband, reemerged in disguise, and revealed that Jay had signed a contract that would send his soul to the devil. Meanwhile, Pete broke off his long-distance relationship, and kissed Alberta, leaving the future of their romance wide open.

Ghosts Season 5 opens with the episode, “Soul Custody.” In it, Sam, Jay, and the ghosts attempt to get Jay out of the Elias deal.
