Paramount+ has announced Laird, a new drama series starring Sir Kenneth Branagh, who will also serve as an executive producer.
Set in the modern Scottish Highlands, Laird follows the Laird of Castle Drummoch as he fights to protect his family’s ancestral land from an American billionaire determined to buy up the surrounding glens. The series will premiere exclusively on Paramount+ globally, including Paramount+ UK & Ireland. You’ll have to keep your eyes peeled for the release date, which has yet to be announced.

Laird is set in the modern Scottish Highlands, and centres on the Laird of Castle Drummoch, played by Sir Kenneth Branagh.
The story follows a proud Scot who refuses to give up his family’s land as an American billionaire attempts to acquire the glens. Alongside that conflict, the series explores family feuds, buried secrets and romances that shape the future of the family.
Kenneth Branagh leads the new series
Kenneth Branagh will star as the Laird of Castle Drummoch, and executive produce the series.
Branagh’s credits include Oppenheimer and Mayday. Branagh is an Oscar®-, Emmy®-, and Golden Globe®-winning actor, writer, and director.
Who created Laird?
Laird was created by Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth, and Georgia Lee.
Jez Butterworth’s credits include MobLand and The Agency, both streaming on Paramount+ UK & Ireland. John-Henry Butterworth’s credits include Nine Perfect Strangers and The Agency. Georgia Lee’s credits include The 100 and Partner Track.
Two-time BAFTA® winner Joe Wright is slated to direct the pilot episode.

Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals for Paramount+, said Laird is about “one man standing his ground against unchecked wealth and power,” and fighting to protect what matters most.
Matt Thunell, President of Paramount Television Studios, said the drama explores “how far one family will go to protect their land and legacy.”
David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios, said he was pleased to continue working with Jez and John-Henry Butterworth on a new project.

Laird will stream exclusively on Paramount+ UK & Ireland, with a launch across Paramount+ globally.
