Who does Samuel L. Jackson play in Frisco King?

In the upcoming Paramount+ original series Frisco King, Oscar® nominee Samuel L. Jackson plays Russell Lee Washington, Jr., a hitman also known as Lee. The character strolls onto the scene as a special guest star in Tulsa King Season 3. The former federal prison buddy of Dwight Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone) reconnects with his old friend en route to becoming a fan-favorite character.

Catch up now with Lee’s Tulsa King appearances: The Season 3 episodes “Dead Weight” and “Jesus Lizard” are streaming now on Paramount+.

How is Frisco King connected to Tulsa King?

Frisco King is directly connected to Tulsa King due to the friendship between Dwight (Stallone) and Lee (Jackson). The friends met in federal prison, and Dwight saved Lee’s life approximately 20 years before Dwight was sent to Tulsa, kicking off the events of Tulsa King. Dwight trusts Lee not only as a skilled hitman, but also as a man of honor – a characteristic that’s infinitely valuable in the organized crime game.

One geographic difference: Tulsa King is set in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Frisco King is set in Frisco, Texas.

Is Taylor Sheridan writing Frisco King?

Yes. Taylor Sheridan will write all eight episodes of Frisco King’s first season. Sheridan wrote the pilot episode of Tulsa King to set the series off right, so his decision to pen the entire first season of Frisco King is definitely exciting.

Sheridan will executive produce the series along with Voros, Friedman, Sylvester Stallone, and Samuel L. Jackson. David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, and Keith Cox are also executive producers on the project.

Who is directing Frisco King?

Christina Alexandra Voros and Michael Friedman will direct multiple episodes of Season 1 of Frisco King, with Voros helming the pilot. Voros and Friedman are both consistent Taylor Sheridan collaborators – Friedman has directed episodes of Landman, Lioness, and others. Voros directed every episode of the first season of The Madison, premiering Saturday, March 14, 2026, and earned an Emmy® nomination for her work on 1883.

When does Frisco King begin production?

Frisco King begins production later this month in Fort Worth, Texas. Similar to the use of the Center of the Universe and other Oklahoma locations in Tulsa King, we can expect well-known northern Texas locals to pop up in the new series.
