John forms an unlikely friendship with his neighbor Tommy, a dangerous character with dark secrets. As truths come to light, John’s family becomes a target.

What is Coldwater about?

Coldwater is about a middle-aged, stay-at-home dad named John (Andrew Lincoln) who is unhappy with his life. After witnessing a shocking incident at a playground, he moves his family to the small Scottish village of Coldwater. Quickly, he strikes up a friendship with his charming and confident neighbor Tommy (Ewen Bremner), who is hiding a terrifying secret.

A surprising chain of events ends in disaster for John. Tommy steps in to save him, leaving John indebted to his new and dangerous mate. Though John is initially unaware that he’s in any peril, dark secrets gradually come to light and reveal the precarious position that he and his family have found themselves in.

Fans of British thrillers such as The Sister, Suspect, Reunion, and Passenger should consider this series a must-watch.

Indira Varma (Game of Thrones, Obsession, Obi-Wan Kenobi) plays John’s wife, Fiona, the breadwinner of the family, and a woman who’s not easily fooled. Ewen Bremner (Our Flag Means Death, Trainspotting) brings to life the enigmatic neighbor Tommy, who hides a dark secret. Eve Myles (Belonging, Torchwood, The Guest) rounds out the cast as Rebecca, Tommy’s wife and the local vicar.

Coldwater was created and written by Irish playwright-turned-screenwriter David Ireland (The Lovers, Ulster American, Cyprus Avenue). He’s also an executive producer.

Lee Haven Jones (Passenger, A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story, Doctor Who) and Andrew Cumming (Out Of Darkness, Payback, Shetland) split directing duties for the series.
