Oscar® nominee Taylor Sheridan expands the Yellowstone universe with the recently renewed CBS Original drama Marshals. Everyone’s favorite cowboy is back as Luke Grimes reprises his role as Kayce Dutton in a series that has already set ratings records.
Marshals follows Kayce, the youngest of John Dutton’s children, as he starts the next chapter of his life away from Yellowstone Ranch. He joins an elite unit of the U.S. Marshals, introducing a new team bringing justice to Montana.

Meet the Marshals cast
Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton

Luke Grimes, lead actor and executive producer of Marshals, returns to his well-known role of Kayce Dutton. The character, a former Navy SEAL, starts a whole new journey as he deals with a tragic loss, as well as a life away from the ranch he grew up on. Kayce joins the U.S. Marshals, and brings to his team his vast military and ranching knowledge.

Logan Marshall-Green as Pete Calvin

Logan Marshall-Green plays Pete Calvin, head of the Marshals unit in Montana. Calvin, known as “Cal” to his team, is Kayce’s former commanding officer from the duo’s stint with the Navy SEALs. He shows up for Kayce as a friend during Kayce’s time of need, and offers him a golden opportunity: a job with the U.S. Marshals.

Arielle Kebbel as Belle Skinner

Arielle Kebbel joins the series as a fellow member of the U.S. Marshals. She plays Belle Skinner, an undercover specialist and a former ATF agent. She is also a mother, a wife, and a woman who prefers to hold her cards close to her chest when it comes to the subject of her past.

Ash Santos as Andrea Cruz

Ash Santos plays Andrea Cruz, a hard-headed member of the U.S. Marshals. Originally from the Bronx, this team member has a tough exterior and is not afraid to make waves by confronting Kayce Dutton on his family’s shady past, or going behind her boss’s back to get the job done.

Tatanka Means as Miles Kittle

Former Broken Rock Reservation law enforcement officer Miles Kittle is played by Tatanka Means. A young member of the U.S. Marshals task force, Kittle has many connections with Broken Rock, and has served in the Marine Corps.

Mo Brings Plenty as Mo

Fans of Yellowstone will recognize this next cast member, Mo Brings Plenty. Mo returns to the Yellowstone universe as Mo, the iconic character that shares his actual name. This confidant and assistant to Broken Rock’s leader, Thomas Rainwater, is well acquainted with the Dutton family history. He’s therefore in the perfect position to offer wisdom to Kayce as the former Yellowstone rancher pursues a new path in life.

Brecken Merrill as Tate Dutton

Brecken Merill is back and playing the teenage Tate Dutton on Marshals. He was just a kid on the ranch in Yellowstone, but now he’s a young man overcoming family tragedy. Like most teens, Tate butts heads with his father Kayce as he strives to find his own place in the world.

Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater

Broken Rock Reservation’s fearless leader Thomas Rainwater returns in this CBS Original drama. Played by Gil Birmingham, Rainwater is back and fighting for his people every way he can. His problems didn’t disappear with the sale of Yellowstone ranch – there’s far more danger in his future.

What Yellowstone characters appear in Marshals?
There are several Yellowstone characters appearing in Marshals. Kayce Dutton and his son Tate have returned; Luke Grimes and Brecken Merrill, who play Kayce and Tate respectively, are series regulars on the show. Thomas Rainwater and his right-hand man Mo also hold important roles in the drama.
As for the rest of the Dutton clan, characters are mentioned, but have not made an appearance so far this season. Marshals is a continuation of Kayce’s Yellowstone journey, but a narratively independent show from Yellowstone.
Supporting cast & recurring roles
There are several familiar faces on the show you might want to get to know. Brett Cullen (The Dark Knight Rises, Ghost Rider, Person of Interest) has a recurring role as Harry Gifford, the head of Montana’s U.S. Marshals division, and a member of the sitting president’s cabinet. Gifford has a lot of concern about Kayce joining the team.
Two recurring guest stars fans will be introduced to are Dolly Weaver and Maddie. Dolly, played by Ellyn Jameson (Barry), is a daughter of a local rancher. Maddie, played by Morgan Lindholm (Truth or Dare, NOS4A2), is the bartender at the team’s favorite bar.
What is Marshals about?
Marshals follows Kayce Dutton as he trades ranch life for a badge after stepping into a new chapter with the U.S. Marshals. The Taylor Sheridan-produced law enforcement drama is a continuation of the beloved character’s story from Yellowstone.
After a tragic loss, Kayce is in need of a fresh start, and he finds a place where he can use his skills as a cowboy and a Navy SEAL to help keep his home state of Montana safe. He and his new teammates must balance family, duty, and the psychological cost that comes with working in the U.S. Marshals.
