The Lioness program is back in business. The Taylor Sheridan hit espionage thriller Lioness has been renewed for a third season.

Lioness stars Oscar® winner Zoe Saldaña and Oscar® and Emmy® winner Nicole Kidman. Saldaña and Kidman are executive producers, along with Sheridan, who created the Paramount+ original drama.

What is the Lioness Season 3 release date?

As of publication, the Lioness Season 3 release date has not been announced. Lioness Season 1 launched on July 23, 2023; Lioness Season 2 premiered on Oct. 27, 2024.

Who is in the Lioness Season 3 cast?

As announced by Paramount+ on Oct. 1, 2025, the Lioness Season 3 cast will be led by Saldaña and Kidman, who return to their roles as Joe and Kaitlyn, respectively.

Joe McNamara is a CIA station chief who runs Lioness, a program that recruits, trains, and leads women into undercover operations.

What happens in Lioness Season 1 and Season 2?

A lot happens in Lioness Season 1 and Season 2. That's the short, non-spoiler answer, at least. If you want a more thorough briefing, then read on … Warning: Spoilers ahead.

In Lioness Season 1, Joe recruits Cruz to embed herself in the wealthy family with connections to terror groups in order to take out the groups' main financial backer, Asmar Ali Amrohi (Bassem Youssef). Along the way, Cruz develops a strong bond with Asmar's daughter Aaliyah. In the end, the mission is accomplished, but Cruz isn't sure it was just, and she takes leave of Joe and the team.

In Lioness Season 2, when a member of Congress (Czarina Mireles) is kidnapped by a Mexican drug cartel backed by China, Joe and her team are called back to action. Joe's niece Josephina, aka Josie, a captain in the U.S. Army, is recruited to be the new Lioness. Josie gets help and guidance from an unlikely source: Cruz, who returns to help the mission. Operation Sky Hawk ends in a blaze of bullets on the battlefield (and a slew of injuries), but once again, the mission is accomplished.

Through it all, Joe struggles to balance her job with her home life with husband Neal and her two children.
