Alan Cumming, who starred as fan favorite Eli Gold in The Good Fight predecessor The Good Wife for all seven seasons, is returning for two episodes to reprise his role as a powerful political consultant. Eli will return to assist his daughter, Marissa Gold (Sarah Steele) as she begins her career as a bar-certified lawyer.
In addition, André Braugher is joining the Season 6 cast as a series regular. He will play Ri’Chard Lane, a showman lawyer and rainmaker who is forced on Liz (Audra McDonald) as a new name partner. A force of nature, Ri’Chard is a wild mix of brilliance, geniality, religion, and joyful hedonism. In short, he’s a handful.
Carrie Preston, who has previously appeared on The Good Fight as the whacky lawyer Elsbeth Tascioni, will return in the role for one episode in Season 6. As Diane finds herself getting further from reality this season, suddenly, she and Elsbeth are in a similar headspace. Preston will also return as a director for one episode of Season 6.
John Slattery is joining the fight as Lyle Bettencourt, a brilliant, sophisticated, and sensitive physician, who helps Diane through a crazy time.
"We couldn't be more excited to have the enormously talented, usually-too-busy John Slattery join the cast," said Robert and Michelle King, series co-creators, showrunners, and executive producers. "We feel like we've been chasing him forever."
Phylicia Rashad will appear in four episodes of Season 6 as Renetta Clark, the calm, brilliant leader of a stealthy resistance movement. Shahar Isaac will play Zev Baker, an Israeli Krav Maga instructor who's equal parts tough and charming, in three episodes.
Plus, Erich Bergen and Paul Scheer will appear in one episode each. Bergen's character, Steven Sheen, is a prosecutor and querulous overachiever, a no-holds-barred hard-hitter who has a real scorched earth policy when it comes to cross-examining witnesses. He’s out for a conviction and he intends to get it. Scheer will play Matt Brittel, a pragmatic-bordering-on-opportunistic lawyer who squares off against Diane Lockhart in court.

The sixth season has Diane (Christine Baranski) feeling like she’s going crazy, struggling with an uneasy sense of déjà vu, with everything from Roe v. Wade to voting rights to Cold War aggressions returning. Meanwhile, the lawyers of Reddick & Associates wonder if the violence that they see all around them points to an impending civil war.
Stream the Season 6 premiere of The Good Fight on Thursday, Sept. 8, exclusively on Paramount+.
