"We've always been a political show," said Murphy Brown Executive Producer Diane English in anticipation of the show's upcoming premiere. "We've always had something to say."

That said, it seems like no news story is safe from Murphy Brown this fall, so how does the series plan to tackle producing a timely show amidst an ever-changing 24-hour news cycle?

"We've always had this uncanny ability to look ahead at what might happen and put it in an episode... And the same thing is happening again," explained English. "Our second episode is right on the money in terms of what's in the headlines right now. We actually developed an episode on the #MeToo movement that will be our fourth episode."

In order to not get too ahead of themselves, the Murphy Brown writers will then press pause after Episode 9 to survey their surroundings, but that break won't last long.

English continued, "As we get into our production schedule, we air three weeks from the time we shoot the show, and we're shooting digitally, so we have the ability to pop in something extremely topical."

With such a tight turnaround to churn out new episodes, but English and the cast are up to the task.

According to English, "We've always tried to blur the line between fiction and reality. We plan to do the same thing again."
