When the current-day revival of Murphy Brown returns to CBS for the 2018-2019 broadcast season, actor Jake McDorman (Lady Bird, Showtime's Shameless) will go head-to-head with star Candice Bergen (Brown) as her son, Avery, a millennial journalist who followed in his mother's headline-making footsteps.

However, the traits they have in common—like a competitive spirit and quick wit—might be the same things that cause friction between the two.

Also joining the cast is Nik Dodani (Atypical, The Comeback), who plays Pat, the director of social for the news show that's tasked with bringing Murphy & Co. into the 21st century.

In addition to Bergen returning to the series' titular role, original cast members Faith Ford, Joe Regalbuto and Grant Shaud will also reprise their roles as Corky Sherwood, Frank Fontana and Miles Silverberg, respectively.

As we inch toward the series' 30th anniversary, the revival will offer fans a look at how Brown tackles the current state of cable news, social media, fake news, and a VERY different political and cultural climate.

Also back for a second go-around is original series creator Diane English, who will serve as Writer and Executive Producer of the multi-camera comedy. Bergen will also be an Executive Producer.

During the series' original decade-long run on CBS, Murphy Brown garnered 62 Emmy nominations (with 18 wins), 15 Golden Globe nominations (with three wins), three Screen Actors Guild awards, and much, much more.

Bergen personally earned five Emmy Awards for her portrayal of the ambitious investigative journalist and news anchor of FYI, a fictional TV magazine show.
