When Scott appeared alongside actress Angelina Jolie in the 2000 film Gone in Sixty Seconds it wasn't their first meeting. The two actually knew each other from when they both attended Beverly Hills High School.

As a surfer his entire life, Scott decided to take advantage of living on the islands while filming Hawaii Five-0 and teach the sport to kids—specifically kids with special needs through the organizations Life Rolls On, Surfer's Healing, and ThERAsurf. "We take people with spinal cord injuries in the water, and we take autistic kids in the water," he said during a 2012 interview. "And any kids with special needs we just take them out in the water and take them surfing."
